Does Curlex decompose?

What is Curlex made of?
American Excelsior’s patented Curlex® fibers are made from 100% Great Lakes Aspen wood fibers. The end of each wood fiber is curled and barbed which distinguishes it from the flat straw fiber. The curled wood fibers interlock with each other and with the soil to create an intimate connection.

What is Curlex?
The Original Curlex® Erosion Control Blanket Designed using cuts of Great Lakes aspen fibers, these blankets were developed in the early 1960s to provide ideal conditions for grass seed growth, while simultaneously shielding the topsoil from water and wind erosion.
Can you mow over erosion blankets?
You leave a straw blanket on new grass until the grass is long enough to move (between two to three inches). Mowing the grass or removing the straw blanket too soon can rip out the roots, causing you to have to restart the process. There’s no need to manually remove the straw blanket by hand.
Can you seed over erosion blanket?

Does Curlex have seed in it?
Curlex blankets consist of unique softly barbed, interlocking, curled, Aspen excelsior fibers. They are naturally seed-free. Curlex blankets are available with a variety of environmentally sensitive and/or stronger netting types to match job site requirements.
How do you install Curlex?
Curlex blankets shall be centered to offset a seam in the middle of the waterway. They shall be installed in the same direction as the water flow. The adjoining blankets shall be installed away from the center of channel and concentrated water flow. They shall be secured by a common row of staples.
How long do erosion blankets last?
These blankets are made with agricultural straw and a biodegradable net that are sewn together. If the blanket should last for up to one year, there are thicker options made with the same material, or wood shavings and natural fibers. Extended length blankets are intended to protect an area for up to 2 years.
How do you plant grass with an erosion control blanket?
If you have a large area, turn a sprinkler on the area and allow the blankets to become wet to the point of runoff. Water the blankets to keep them thoroughly moist until grass sprouts through the blanket. Allow the grass sprouts to grow to around 2 to 3 inches tall before you mow those areas.
