The United States Academic Decathlon® is a ten-event scholastic competition for teams of high school students. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 Honor students (3.80 – 4.00 GPA), 3 Scholastic students (3.20 – 3.799 GPA), and 3 Varsity students (0.00 – 3.199 GPA).

Similar to Decathlon, Academic Octathlon competition is comprised of eight events, including economics, literature, mathematics, social science, science, art, and music, and the Super Quiz event (an oral relay over all subjects). This competition is exclusively for ninth and tenth-grade students.

Academic Decathlon isn’t about mastering a single event, but ten different skills and disciplines. You’ll deliver speeches, one on a topic of your choice and one on a topic you’ve never seen before. You’ll write an essay demonstrating not just what you’ve learned but how powerfully you can argue an idea.
