What is KERDI-BOARD used for?

Schluter ®-KERDI-BOARD is a multifunctional tile substrate and building panel, which can also be used in bonded waterproofing assemblies with tile. KERDI-BOARD allows you to quickly and easily build tile-ready elements in showers, bathtub surrounds and platforms, countertops, vanities, shelving, and more!

Why is KERDI-BOARD not available?

We are dealing with a raw material shortage as a result of COVID, and we are unable to source part of the materials required for our Kerdi-Board production.

Can I use KERDI-BOARD instead of cement board?

It’s a lightweight polystyrene board faced with Kerdi that comes in various thicknesses that you can use in place of drywall or cement board.

Can KERDI-BOARD be installed over drywall?

So, is Kerdi safe to use on drywall? Yes! In fact, it’s advised to use this product on drywall in your bathroom before laying tile and other materials. Without a waterproof membrane like Kerdi, water and moisture can seep through grout, tile and other materials and end up damaging wood studs and subfloor.

Can you tile right over KERDI-BOARD?

For most installations of KERDI-BOARD, tile can be installed right away. Exceptions include curved wall areas and non-bearing partition wall systems. In these applications, the tiles can be installed once the bonding materials have cured sufficiently to stabilize the KERDI-BOARD assembly.

Will Thinset stick to Kerdi fix?

Kerdi fix does not stick to thin-set FYI. So if you pre-treated the backs you just ruined the corner.

What is the best backer board for a shower?

Cement board
Cement board is a good, reliable backer board that works well on both floors and walls. Keep in mind that most tile setters err on the side of caution and brush a waterproofing membrane on top of cement board when it is in wet areas like showers or tub surrounds.

Is Schluter Kerdi-board worth it?

Great product. It takes a little longer than the traditional mud shower bed and water-proofing methods, but it is worth it. Took my old shower down to the studs and completely rebuilt it with DuraRock and then the Schluter Kerdi Shower Kit and 12×16″ tiles.

What can I use instead of KERDI-BOARD?

Profoil is a cheaper alternative to Schluter Kerdi without sacrificing quality. It’s applied the same as Kerdi with both in and out corners available.
