What is a patent key?
A patented keyway offers protection against unauthorized key duplication. A manufacturer with a UTILITY patent key system design controls the manufacturing and distribution of the cylinders and key (key blanks). To the customer, this means that keys and key blanks are not readily available in the open market.
Can you make copies of Medeco keys?
Only Medeco authorized locksmiths are equipped to duplicate Medeco keys, and they record and verify every transaction. Each key cut is held on file at both the Locksmith and Medeco. It’s a 2 part authentication process to ensure the security of the key duplication process.
What is a high security key?
High security keys are keys that are difficult or practically impossible to duplicate without permission and that work with locks that have resistance to being picked, bumped, or defeated by other means.

Can Medeco locks be picked?
[Jon]’s Medecoder tool is a thin piece of wire with a sliding scale to help you position these grooves correctly. To pick the lock, you first set all the pins to the correct height. Then, using the Medecoder you find each pin’s individual groove. All Medeco locks have the pins at the same distance from the lock face.
