Avignon remains one of France’s most fascinating and historic towns and is definitely worth visiting. It is a lively place full of culture and history for the prepared and unprepared tourists. Avignon’s monuments and other tourist spots are just as magnificent as you have seen on YouTube.

Avignon is famous for its historical heritage. Large sections of town and numerous buildings and structures have been declared UNESCO World Heritage sites. Aside from the bridge and palace, other protected sites include the ramparts or protective walls leading up to the bridge and the Avignon Cathedral.

While its long heritage plays a critical role in its success, it is a very modern city with all the beauty, spirit, and French-ness that Provence has to offer. For all these reasons, I chose this lovely, walkable city as one of the bases on my two-week Provence adventure.

Is Salon de Provence worth visiting?
Salon-de-Provence is a busy modern town with loads of shopping possibilities, good hotels and plenty of activities, including flying. The ancient center is a nice tourist site, well worth a visit, but the town would be better as a base for visiting the region rather than a destination for itself.
