What does Soldano SLO mean?
What does Soldano SLO mean?
The SLO part of the amp’s name is an acronym for Super Lead Overdrive. This pretty much sums up the emphasis of the design here, but unlike other high gain amps, the clean channel is no afterthought. Even with humbuckers, you get a chiming, pleasant clean tone with clarity and separation.
How does SLO Soldano work?
It’s a passive tone control that cannot boost frequencies, only remove them from the guitar signal. It’s a low impedance circuit that places a heavy load on the guitar signal so the Tone Stack Buffer Cathode Follower acts as a buffer between the low impedance tone stack and the high impedance signal from the preamp.
Who used Soldano SLO?
Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler purchased the SLO-100 when first released in 1987. Guitarist Tommy Kessler of Blondie uses the SLO-100(100W) amplifier head in Snakeskin and a matching 2×12 cabinet as part of his touring rig.
What is a cold Clipper?
The cold clipper is designed to clip on the cold side of the operating point. This clipping is asymmetric because there’s plenty of room on the saturation side of the bias point so the guitar signal’s negative lobe is clipped while the positive lobe passes unmolested and carries the original musical content.
