Why is it called Neutral Bay?
Neutral Bay was named by Governor Phillip, when he decreed in 1789 that all non-British ‘neutral’ ships visiting Port Jackson were to anchor there. A small unnamed creek which ran intermittently into the bay was used by these ships to replenish stores of fresh water.
