What to do with an old Winchester M70?
These were drawn by Winchester in 1958 and are readily available as a reprint (the drawings are also reproduced in the back of Rule’s M70 book if you happen to have a copy). Those drawings are remarkably helpful. Beyond that, if you don’t have the few tools needed or are not comfortable, then take Tedk’s advice and take the rifle to a gunsmith.
Why won’t my M70 safety turn?
There are a multitude of reasons why a M70 safety will stick or not turn at all, but most of those relate to fitting one in the first place. Assuming that the safety (and firing pin/striker) is original to the rifle, meaning that it was properly fitted and worked well at one time, there’s not too much that can go wrong.
Can a worn out M70 trigger be rebuilt?
Cannot imagine how something as simple as a M70 trigger could be “worn out”. (Unless it has been messed with) Numrich has all the parts to rebuild it. Man, don’t shade-tree mechanic a trigger. There are too many 80 year old Model 70s out there with triggers that work just fine.
Can a safety come out of a pre-64 M70?
On the early pre-war M70s that didn’t have a retaining pin in the bolt sleeve, the safety can work its way partially out, but this should be obvious. You didn’t say whether your M70 was a pre-64 or not.
