  • Is food allowed in the Met museum?

    Other than water, outside food or drink is not allowed, unless for medical purposes. Be advised that large bags, luggage, and musical instruments are not permitted in the Museum.

    Can I bring a backpack into the Met?

    We cannot accept luggage, but we can check bags and backpacks – we suggest having another small bag to carry laptops with you, as those may not be checked. Please feel free to call and speak to our friendly Information staff for details, at 212-535-7710.

    Is the Met Rooftop Open 2022?

    How do you spend a day at the Met?

    If you visited the Met years ago, you might remember that it used to be a pay-what-you-wish museum. Unfortunately, the museum is now only pay-what-you-wish for New York residents and students in NJ, NY, and CT. Otherwise, Met tickets cost $25 for adults, $17 for seniors (65+), and $12 for students.

    Does the Met have a dress code?

    What to Wear. There is no dress code at the Met, but a night at the opera can be a great excuse to get dressed up.

    Does the Met search your bag?

    You will be required to pass through a security check to enter the building where any bag you may have with you will be either scanned or searched. It can be a slow process and there are often long queues at the museum entrance.

    Is the Met Rooftop Open 2021?

    Alex Da Corte (American, born 1980) has been commissioned to create a site-specific installation for The Met’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. The Roof Garden Commission: Alex Da Corte, As Long as the Sun Lasts will be on view from April 16 through October 31, 2021.
