What is wireline logging?
What is wireline logging?
Wireline logging is the process of using electric instruments to continuously measure the properties of a formation, in order to make decisions about drilling and production operations. Wireline logging is the measurement of downhole formation attributes using special tools or equipment lowered into the borehole.
What is logging in geophysics?
Geophysical logging provides measurements of a wide variety of parameters down the length of an open borehole or cased monitor well, similar to the surface geophysical methods (Fig. 18.1). Geophysical logging is commonly used in the oil and gas industry as part of exploration and development.
What are the different types of well logging?
Well Log Techniques
- Acoustic Logs. Cement Bond Log. Cross-Dipole Acoustic Log.
- Caliper Log.
- Chemical Logging.
- Density Log.
- Gamma Log.
- Image Logs.
- Mud Logging.
- Neutron Log.
What is log in well logging?
A well log is a record of the formations and any events that are encountered in the well drilling process. It is also referred to as borehole logging. The main purpose of keeping a well log is to determine the suitability of the well for its intended use.
What is open hole wireline logging?
Open-hole logging refers to logging operations that are performed on a well before the wellbore has been cased and cemented. In other words, the logging is done through the bare rock sides of the formation.
What is a logging tool?
1. n. [Formation Evaluation] The downhole hardware needed to make a log. The term is often shortened to simply “tool.” Measurements-while-drilling (MWD) logging tools, in some cases known as logging while drilling (LWD) tools, are drill collars into which the necessary sensors and electronics have been built.
What are well logging tools?
Logging tools are inserted into the well to measure the electrical, acoustic, radioactive and electromagnetic properties of the subsurface formations. Sometimes the logging tools are incorporated into the drilling tool, and sometimes the drilling tools are lowered into the well at regular intervals to collect data.
What are the two methods of logging?
Logging is generally categorized into two categories: selective and clear-cutting. Selective logging is selective because loggers choose only wood that is highly valued, such as mahogany. Clear-cutting is not selective.
