Arenal Volcano is the third most perfect conical shaped volcano in the world. It had remained silent between 1500 and 1900. People started considering it extinct. After remaining silent for these 400 years, this volcano erupted on July 29, 1968.

Will Arenal erupt again?
Volcanologists don’t anticipate it will erupt again for several more years, possibly generations. Today, only a small amount of smoke can be seen escaping from the volcano’s crater, if any.

Since 2010, Arenal Volcano has been in a resting phase with very little activity, a process that is natural for active volcanoes. In 2012, Arenal Volcano revived a little, spewing columns of water vapor and gases into the air from the summit. These emissions can still occasionally be seen.
