What is Udld enable?
UDLD is a Layer 2 protocol that enables devices connected through fiber-optic or twisted-pair Ethernet cables to monitor the physical configuration of the cables and detect when a unidirectional link exists.
What is Udld and why it is required?
The purpose of Unidirectional Link Detection (UDLD) is to detect and deter issues that arise from Unidirectional Links. UDLD helps to prevent forwarding loops and blackholing of traffic by identifying and acting on logical one-way links that would otherwise go undetected.
What is Udld aggressive mode?
With UDLD aggressive mode enabled, when a port on a bidirectional link that has a UDLD neighbor relationship established stops receiving UDLD packets, UDLD tries to reestablish the connection with the neighbor. After eight failed retries, the port is disabled.
What is Udld error?
A port may go into errdisable status due to a UniDirectional Link Detection (UDLD) condition. The errdisable status indicates that the port was automatically disabled by the switch Operating System (OS) software due to an error condition encountered on the port.
Is blocked by UDLD?
When a port is blocked by UDLD, the event is recorded in the switch log or via an SNMP trap (if configured); and other port blocking protocols, like spanning tree or meshing, will not use the bad link to load balance packets. The port will remain blocked until the link is unplugged, disabled, or fixed.

The Errdisable error disable feature was designed to inform the administrator when there is a port problem or error. The reasons a catalyst switch can go into Errdisable mode and shutdown a port are many and include: Duplex Mismatch. Loopback Error.

To recover a port that is in an Errdisable state, manual intervention is required, and the administrator must access the switch and configure the specific port with ‘shutdown’ followed by the ‘no shutdown’ command. What is unidirectional link failure?
Unidirectional links are the links for which either one of the transmission path has failed but not both. Cisco implementations have different mechanisms to detect unidirectional links and avoided the impact caused by them.
Should STP be enabled on all ports?
You configure the command “spanning-tree portfast” on all the ports connecting to end devices like workstations. They then automatically bypass the wait period and DHCP works properly. It’s important to only configure this command on ports that connect to end devices though.
Should I enable BPDU guard?
You should globally enable BPDU filtering on a switch so that hosts connected to these ports do not receive BPDUs. If a BPDU is received on a Port Fast-enabled STP port, the interface loses its Port Fast-operational status, and BPDU filtering is disabled.
