What is the difference between PuriLens and PuriLens plus?

PuriLens Uses FDA approved for use as an insertion solution for scleral lenses! PuriLens Plus Preservative-Free Saline is indicated for use following proper lens disinfection as recommended by the eye care practitioner.

Is PuriLens FDA approved?

PuriLens Plus saline solution is a safe FDA approved preservative-free, pH-balanced, sterile, aqueous isotonic solution of sodium chloride, buffered with boric acid and sodium borate. It DOES NOT contain chlorhexidine, thimerosal, or other mercury-containing compounds. Safe to apply to contact lenses before insertion.

Is PuriLens discontinued?

PuriLens Plus Saline was not originally sold in retail stores, so it was not generally well known until after Unisol 4 was discontinued, and when demand increased again after Simply Saline products were also discontinued. PuriLens Plus Saline is now the only buffered saline of it’s kind on the U.S. market.

What can I use instead of PuriLens?

What happened to unisol?

In fall 2015 Alcon very quietly discontinued their preservative free saline solution for contact lens rinsing and filling, the well-regarded Unisol 4. Most local pharmacies and box stores are now out of the product, and patients that have used the product loyally for years are scrambling for a replacement.
