Is NCD a good investment?
In such a low interest rate environment, another investment option that appeals to investors is the non-convertible debentures (NCDs). NCDs are issued by corporates to raise funds from the public and offer a fixed return generally higher than what is available to investors from bank fixed deposits.
Is NCD interest taxable?
Interest on NCD is taxed under head ‘other sources’ at applicable slab rates, paid periodically or cumulatively. Interest is not subject to tax deduction at source if NCDs are held in dematerialised form and are listed on a stock exchange. Profit on sale/ redemption of NCDs has to be offered to tax as ‘Capital Gains’.
