WHAT IS MR perfusion study?

Perfusion MRI or perfusion-weighted imaging (PWI) is perfusion scanning by the use of a particular MRI sequence. The acquired data are then post-processed to obtain perfusion maps with different parameters, such as BV (blood volume), BF (blood flow), MTT (mean transit time) and TTP (time to peak).

How long does a perfusion MRI take?

Allow 1½ – 2 hours for the whole procedure. This includes time to put the cannula in, resting time before and after the radiopharmaceutical has been injected and the actual scan time. Depending on where you are having the scan done, you may need to remain after the test to collect your results or images.
