What is Mircera injection used for?
Mircera is used to treat anaemia (low red blood cell counts) that is causing symptoms in adults with chronic kidney disease (long-term, progressive decrease in the ability of the kidneys to work properly). The medicine can only be obtained with a prescription.
How often do you take Mircera?
Use Mircera exactly as it was prescribed for you. This medicine is usually given once every 2 weeks or once per month. Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose.
What are the side effects of Mircera?
Common side effects of Mircera include stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, headache, muscle aches or spasms, back pain, pain in the arms or legs, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, injection site reactions (itching, redness, bruising, or swelling), high or low blood pressure, or urinary tract infections.
How is Mircera injection given?
MIRCERA should be administered either subcutaneously or intravenously. It can be injected subcutaneously in the abdomen, arm or thigh. All three injection sites are equally suitable. For instructions on the administration of the medicinal product, see section 6.6.

Among the serious adverse reactions occurring during MIRCERA® treatment belong: Increased mortality, myocardial infarction, stroke, and thromboembolism. Increased mortality and/or tumor progression in patients with cancer.
Can Mircera cause high blood pressure?
High blood pressure is a common side effect of Mircera in patients with chronic kidney disease. Your blood pressure may go up or be difficult to control with blood pressure medicine while taking Mircera. This can happen even if you have never had high blood pressure before.
How long does it take Mircera to work?
It may take 2 to 6 weeks before your red blood cell count increases. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not get better or if they get worse.

Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta may sometimes cause or worsen high blood pressure, especially in patients with long-term kidney failure.
