What is an exothermic torch?
What is an exothermic torch?
An exothermic torch works by feeding oxygen through an exothermic carbon steel cutting rod that is charged by the 12-volt battery. When using the torch, the rod is put in contact with a striker that creates a short circuit arc causing the tip of the rod to heat and spark (see photo 2).
How does Broco torch work?
The rod readily ignites from a spark generated by a 12 or 24 volt auto or marine battery and will continue to burn with electrical current removed until the flow of oxygen is stopped or the rod is consumed. The need for expensive support equipment is reduced while a safer diving environment is maintained.
What are Broco rods made of?
Broco’s patented rod design features alloy core wires retained by circular crimps. The special design prevents burnback into the torch. Exothermic Cutting Rods can be bent 90 degrees or more to access hard to reach places without restricting oxygen flow or causing insulation to split or flake off.
What is a Broco?
Broco® manufactures patented products using proprietary formulas that make underwater cutting and welding jobs safer, faster and more economical. Broco sets the world standard in underwater welding equipment, exothermic cutting torches and customer service.
What is the hottest cutting torch?
The hottest most-versatile gas, acetylene, is very easy to use for all purposes. Pre-heat time for cutting and gouging is relatively short because the flame temperature is between 5,600 and 5,800 F. However, this gas is the most expensive gas available and is not the most efficient for heating large areas.
What is gouging torch?
Gouging is carried out using a torch through which oxygen and a fuel gas (acetylene, propane or mains gas) are passed. The surface of the steel is preheated by an outer ring of jets, and oxygen is directed from a central jet to the area to be gouged.
Can you cut concrete with a thermal lance?
An intense stream of burning steel is produced at the working end and can be used to cut rapidly through thick materials, including steel and concrete.
What is a lancing torch?
A Thermic Lance or Thermal Lance is a steel pipe packed with mixed metal wires and is commonly known as a lancing rod, oxylance or lancing torch. Pressurised oxygen gas is passed through the pipe from an oxygen source. The end of the pipe is lit with a high temperature source, e.g. an oxy torch.
