What does Bronze Medallion give you?
The Bronze Medallion develops knowledge, judgement and skills in rescue, personal survival and emergency care and is awarded in recognition of the ability to perform aquatic rescues in a safe and efficient manner. The Bronze Medallion will test the candidate’s knowledge, fitness, skills and judgement.
How hard is it to pass Bronze Medallion?
Bronze Medallion has a few challenging skills that candidates must master in order to obtain their qualification. For some 13-year-olds, the endurance swim and life saving skills are a piece of cake. For others (especially those without a strong swim background) these skills can be tough.

It is valid for life and recognized across Canada. Individuals who wish to work as an assistant lifeguard must be recertified every two years (if Bronze Cross is the highest level achieved).

How often do Bronze Medallion, Bronze cross and NLS have to be recertified? All Lifesaving awards have to be recertified every two years from the date appearing on the certificate. If you continue your lifeguard training you do not have to recertify your Bronze Medallion or your Bronze Cross.

Is bronze medallion easy?
Bronze courses are physically demanding and if you haven’t been swimming for a year or two you will be challenged by the distance and fitness swims that are in both the Medallion and Cross courses. Medallion candidates should be able to complete a swim of 500m in less than 15 minutes.
