You can package up to $9,009 of your salary. Salary packaging is recognised by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as a fringe benefit. Fringe benefits provided by NSW Health are not liable for Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) because NSW Health is registered with the ATO as a Public Benevolent Institution.
What living expenses can I salary package?

A laptop, notebook computer or similar portable computer (eg. tablet device) can be included in your salary package and is exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax if used primarily for work purposes.

NFP employees can package up to $15,900 every year, which is the maximum capped amount. Salary packaging is an option. For those that do use it, you will only pay tax on the remaining portion of your salary, significantly reducing your taxable income.
Is salary packaging legal?
Yes. If you are hired on a temporary contract which is longer than three months, you can salary package.
Is salary packaging worthwhile?
The main benefit of salary sacrificing is that it reduces your pre-tax income, and therefore the amount of tax you must pay. For example: if you’re on a $100,000 income, you may agree to only receive $75,000 as income in return for a $25,000 car as a benefit.

With the Salary Packaging Living Expenses Card, you may be able to package up to $15,900 (depending on your employer) of your gross annual salary for everyday items, such as bills, groceries, clothing, private travel and many more.
