What are Longtec 20mg for?
This medicine has been prescribed for you for the relief of moderate to severe pain over a period of 12 hours. It contains oxycodone which belongs to a class of medicines called opioids, which are ‘pain relievers’. This medicine has been prescribed for you and should not be given to anyone else.
How do you take Longtec?
You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Swallow your tablets whole with water. Do not crush, dissolve, or chew them. Longtec tablets are designed to work properly over 12 hours when swallowed whole.
What is Shortec 5mg used for?
Shortec (5mg capsule) is taken as and when you need it for moderate to severe pain in addition to the other pain killers you have been prescribed. You can take one capsule as needed, up to one capsule every hour if you require.
What are opioids?
Opioids are a class of drugs naturally found in the opium poppy plant and that work in the brain to produce a variety of effects, including the relief of pain with many of these drugs. Opioids can be prescription medications often referred to as painkillers, or they can be so-called street drugs, such as heroin.
How much Shortec can you take?
The usual starting dose is 0.5 ml every 4 to 6 hours. However, your doctor will prescribe the dose required to treat your pain. If you find that you are still in pain whilst taking this medicine discuss this with your doctor.

This medication is used to help relieve severe ongoing pain (such as due to cancer). Oxycodone belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid analgesics. It works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain.
What is Longtec tablets used for?
For the treatment of moderate to severe pain in patients with cancer and post-operative pain. For the treatment of severe pain requiring the use of a strong opioid. Adults over 18 years: Longtec tablets should be taken at 12-hourly intervals.
How do you take Shortec?
You must only take this medicine by mouth. This medicine should never be injected as this may lead to serious side effects, which may be fatal (see section 2 ‘Warnings and precautions’). If you take more Shortec oral solution than you should or if someone accidentally swallows your medicine.
Do they have 20 mg oxycodone?
Oxycodone comes as: capsules – these contain 5mg, 10mg or 20mg of oxycodone. slow-release tablets – these contain 5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, 30mg, 40mg, 60mg, 80mg or 120mg of oxycodone.
