What are bipolar flows?
What are bipolar flows?
Bipolar flows are a phenomenon associated with young stars still embedded in their parent molecular clouds. There are two kinds of flows – jets and molecular outflows. The first represent high-speed stellar wind gas, ejected into two narrow streams. The second are broader cones of more slowly moving cloud gas.
What causes bipolar outflow?
The origin of these jets is the presence of a binary companion, where mass-transfer and accretion onto one of the stars lead to the creation of an accretion disk, from which matter is ejected. The presence of a magnetic field causes the eventual ejection and collimation of the matter, forming a bipolar outflow or jet.
What is outflow in astronomy?
Bipolar outflow, in astronomy, two continuous flows of gas from the poles of a star. Outflow (hydrology), the discharge of a lake or other reservoir system. Outflow (meteorology), air that flows outwards from a thunderstorm.
Why do jets form in protostars?
As material falls onto the protostar from the surrounding accretion disk, it is thought that interactions between the magnetic fields of the rotating star and the accretion disk turn the in-falling material around and eject it from the stellar magnetic poles. This is what we observe as stellar jets.
What is the protostar stage?
A protostar is a very young star that is still gathering mass from its parent molecular cloud. The protostellar phase is the earliest one in the process of stellar evolution. For a low-mass star (i.e. that of the Sun or lower), it lasts about 500,000 years.
Which stage of star formation is associated with dark dust clouds?
protostellar stage
The protostellar stage of stellar existence is almost invariably hidden away deep inside dense clouds of gas and dust left over from the GMC. Often, these star-forming cocoons known as Bok globules, can be seen in silhouette against bright emission from surrounding gas.
What is outflow and inflow?
Cash inflow is the money going into a business which could be from sales, investments or financing. It’s the opposite of cash outflow, which is the money leaving the business.
What are the examples of cash outflow?
Examples of cash outflow include money spent on fixed assets, salaries, payment made to suppliers, loans taken and interest paid on them, wages, transport costs, and insurance dividends that require you to pay.
How are protostars formed?
How is a Protostar Formed? Inside a nebula, there are areas where gravity causes dust and gas to “clump” together. As these “clumps” gather more and more mass their gravitational pull increases, forcing more atoms together. This process is known as accretion, and the result is a protostar.
What are jets seen near protostars?
Protostellar jets are intriguing signposts of star formation. They appear as cylindrical structures, emanating from protostars (baby stars) and propagating away at highly supersonic speeds.
