This is a question we receive frequently at pexhouse.com and the short answer is that Wirsbo IS PEX! PEX is slang for “Crosslinked Polyethylene”, a popular type of plastic material used for plumbing and heating pipes all over the world. Wirsbo is simply one of many brand names of PEX in the marketplace.
What is a Wirsbo fitting?
Wirsbo hePEX is crosslinked polyethylene (PEX-a) pipe that features a patent-pending oxygen-barrier coating technology that makes it ideal for closed-loop hydronic heating and cooling applications. Wirsbo hePEX can be used for hydronic distribution piping as well as potable-plumbing systems.
Can you use sharkbite on Wirsbo PEX?
I have successfully used those sharkbite fittings on Wirsbo Pro PEX. It was an odd blind corner that I couldn’t get the tool into to do a 90 degree fitting. Worked like a charm with the sharkbite fitting.
Can you use rehau fittings on Wirsbo pipe?
Rehau PEX-A pipe will work with Uponor (Wirsbo) rings and fittings. Uponor will not warrenty the fitting like they would if you were using their pipe.

The Uponor Wirsbo name is now officially Uponor. Throughout the coming year, the Wirsbo name will transition to Uponor in nearly all its marketing materials and product labeling. One of the exceptions is that the company will retain Wirsbo as a trade name with its line of crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) tubing products.
