Hate to say it. But most bury themselves in the dust behind the fish tank. They are well known for carpet diving. Mine did a few years back.

Gobies do hide when first introduced (most of the time). Ive tried 2 orange spotted diamond gobies and found both of them dried up behind the tank. So there is a chance that it might of jumped out.

The only way a sand sifting Goby would be bad would be if you have a Mandrin. Mandrin’s only eat copepods which live in the sandbed and LR. A sand sifting Goby may reduce the copepod population resulting in a slow starvitation of the Mandrin. The Goby will help keep your sand clean.
