Is it possible to frag this? I have read that using a progressively tighter rubber band to separate the mouths works great, as it slowly (Without tearing) splits the coral without stressing it. Then, once the flesh is separate, you can Dremel the hard bottom and have two, unscathed, brain corals.
How do you cut Favia?
I would use a dremel and cut from the bottom up until you are through MOST of the skeleton. Not all the way to the flesh. Then, try to snap the skeleton and cut the flesh with a clean blade. Or just smack it with a hammer and screwdriver, dip and pray.

Favites sp. corals do have seperate corralite walls and (if careful) can be fragged without splitting polyps…but it is much easier to just get it fragged instead of leaving the coral out of the water for an hour trying to frag it.

The method I use for fragging the majority of hard corals is primarily the same with the cutting tooling being a Gryphon band saw. Cooling liquid used is fresh mixed saltwater with enough iodine to color it a light amber. This helps to disinfect cuts as they’re made which has shown to greatly increase frag survival.
