What is an act Clutch?

How long does it take to break in an ACT clutch?

Do ACT clutches require a break in period? For organic street discs, we recommend breaking in the clutch for 300-500 miles with mild engagement, such as stop-and-go city driving prior to racing or spirited driving.

What does a Stage 3 racing clutch do?

A stage 3 clutch is made for a serious driver and for cars that are tuned to the zenith, leaving stock far behind. It comes with a heavy-duty pressure plate as well as a six-puck ceramic hub disc able to withstand tons of heat and allowing for faster engagement with no slipping.

What’s the difference between a racing clutch and regular clutch?

While a normal clutch features a springs and low-friction material used to absorb slipping and hard launches, a race clutch features ultra-grabby material that limit’s the driver’s ability to slip without overheating the disc.

Does new clutch smell?

[A/H] The OEM clutches do really smell for about the first 3-400 miles. The proper thing to do is to drive, heat up the clutch, then let it cool. Do this at least 4-5 times with out doing any really hard starts. Clutch material is similar to brake pad material and does need to gas when new.

Where should the biting point be on a new clutch?

The bite point is usually around half way through the clutches working travel (around mid-way from fully pressed to fully released). The does however vary a little from car to car.

Does a new clutch need breaking in?

Yes, there are performance clutch companies out there that skip this critical step. Once you have those perfect surfaces, you can achieve the proper break in and seating.
