I’ve looked elsewhere on the internet and am left with the following conclusion: A face up Rivalry of Warlords prevents your opponent from Tribute Summoning a monster of a different type than the Tributed Monster, or Synchro Summoning a monster of a different type than the Synchro Material Monsters.
How good is Gozen Match?
Gozen Match is a great card for the main or side deck of various different decks that only play monsters of one specific Attribute, especially when there are relevant decks with various Attributes like say Altergeist again or Sky Strikers.

A: While the effect of “There Can Be Only One” is applying, each player can only have 1 monster of each Type on their own field. Therefore, in this scenario, you can still Normal or Special Summon a Dragon-Type monster if your opponent has a Dragon-Type monster on their field.
