What was swine fever?
Classical swine fever (CSF), also known as hog cholera, is a contagious viral disease of domestic and wild swine. It is caused by a virus of the genus Pestivirus of the family Flaviviridae. The most common method of transmission is through direct contact between healthy swine and those infected with CSF virus.

What causes swine disease?
Swine Influenza (swine flu) is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs.
Is there still African swine fever?
Four cases of ASF have now been detected in domestic Pigs in Germany since the first domestic case was reported in July 2021. Elsewhere frequent outbreaks in domestic pigs are still being reported in Moldova, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. ASF has also continued to be reported in wild boar across Europe.
How do you cure a swine fever?
No treatment or effective vaccine exists for African swine fever. It has proven difficult to control transmission of the disease. Often, movement restriction and herd depopulation are necessary control measures because of how quickly and easily the virus spreads.
How are most swine diseases transmitted?
The disease can spread from pigs to people via direct contact with infected animals or animal tissues and fluids, such as blood. The bacteria can penetrate damaged skin and mucous membranes.

Can humans get swine flu?
Can humans be infected with swine influenza viruses? Yes. Swine flu viruses do not normally infect humans, however, sporadic human infections with influenza viruses that normally infect swine have occurred.
How long does ASF last?
ASF virus, in a suitable protein environment, is stable over a wide temperature and pH range. It has been shown to survive in serum at room temperature for 18 months, in refrigerated blood for 6 years, and in blood at 37°C for a month.
