There’s no official entrance (like a gate that collects fees) and no charge, UNLESS you are going to either of the two public beaches (Lake Welch or Lake Tiorati) or parking at the Bear Mountain Inn parking area. A parking fee of $8.00 is collected for these beaches and for Bear Mountain parking.

Spring 2022: Harriman State Park of Idaho is a waterfowl and wildlife refuge. Because of the gift deed from the Harrimans, the river and its banks and trails are closed to human access until June 15th. All the rest of the trails are open but be Bear Aware and respect the plants and animals while you visit their home.

The best times to visit Harriman State Park are during the summer and fall seasons. While the park is open year-round for winter lovers too, during the summer all trails, campsites, and lake areas are open and completely safe to enjoy.
What to do if you encounter a black bear while hiking?
If you encounter a bear on the trail, or in your campsite, stop what you are doing and evaluate the situation. Identify yourself by speaking in a calm, appeasing tone. Back away slowly, preferably in the direction you came. Walk, don’t run, and keep your eye on the bear so you can see how it will react.
