Can you wild camp on the Dales way?

We have walked the Dalesway twice and both times have [wild] camped at a farm at Grayrigg Foot thanks to the friendly helpfullness of the owners, they allowed us to use their utility room for toilet and washing facilities and even brought out very welcome tea and cakes as we pitched.

How hard is the Dales Way?

Thankfully though, the Dales Way turned out to be a lovely walk and one well worth doing. Its eighty odd miles are never hugely taxing and in the most part, well way-marked and difficult to get lost, so if you’re after an introduction to long distance walking, this is a fine one to pick.

Beginning in Ilkley, the Dales Way benefits from truly stunning scenery including the Howgill Fells and views over the River Wharfe. Pitch up at one of these campsites on the Dales Way and find a spot close to Lake Windermere or perhaps a base near Wharfedale.

Is the Dales Way a good walk for me?

While some longer walks would have been a good idea, we didn’t find the Dales Way too much of a struggle and were surprised how well our legs felt.

Where to stay on the Dales Way?

Sedbergh has a wider range of accommodation that other stops on the Dales Way, but they do get booked up. We stayed at Daleslea (£90 cash only) a very friendly B&B in a grand Victorian semi-detached conveniently located between the Spar shop and Dalesman pub, so we didn’t have to walk too far.
