Does optical cable length affect sound quality?

Unless optical S/PDIF is REALLY wierd, not it won’t make a difference. With things like SONET and optical Ethernet any length cable works just as well until you go over the max and attenuation makes your signal not go through. I imagine TOSlink is the same.

What is the longest optical audio cable?

A: The ADAT spec puts the limit on optical cable length at five meters (around 16 feet). However, the length you can achieve depends greatly on the cables you are using. Inexpensive optical cables lose signal quite rapidly. But good-quality glass cables can be used for much longer runs.

How do you extend fiber optic cable?

You cannot extend the fiber optic, but the rg6 is usually split at least once so that one goes to the router and others go to you TV’s or STB’s. Note the internet over the Coax uses MOCA protocol.

How far can audio cable be run?

150′
2.5mm, 3.5mm (also called headphone cables), and ¼” audio cables have a maximum distance of 150′ on average. Off-the-shelf, standard audio cables will be rated with 150′ in mind. It is possible to go further by custom-making something using thicker cable than usual.

Does a longer audio cable affect sound quality?

When long runs (of either interconnects or speaker cables) are used, cable quality becomes extra important. Due to the additional signal losses longer runs impose, the better the cable is at “protecting” the signal, the better will be the sound.

Can optical cable be too long?

Has anyone used a cable that long without problems? According to BICSI (an organization specializing in telecommunications), the longest practical length of an optical cable is limited to 20 feet. Anything longer than that is susceptible to errors due to internal reflections.

How do you run audio over long distance?

Best method of running stereo (computer audio) cable over long distances

  1. Wireless streaming.
  2. Break out the soldering iron, and make a couple of converters to link up the three wires in a stereo cable to the three wires in an XLR cable.
  3. Use a stereo-RCA cable, to two DI boxes, then through two channels in our multicore.

Can fiber optic be extended?

Fiber optical cable provides great advantages rather than copper cat5e/cat6 cable. It can extend up to 120 km long distance network.

What is better arc or optical?

To begin with, HDMI ARC is the best choice if you want the absolute best audio quality possible. It supports all the latest audio formats, and lets you use the same remote for all devices. Moreover, it helps you eliminate tangled cables and clutter. On the other hand, optical cables still offer decent sound quality.
