Cartmel is a truly wonderful village and in many people’s opinion, it is now the best village in Cumbria. You’d be hard pushed to find such a beautiful small village that isn’t too busy, not at all commercialised and has so many great places to eat drink and buy wonderful local food and drink.

Medieval Cartmel is a beautiful village with a colourful and interesting history. The village is most famous for its ancient priory which has been a place of Christian worship for 800 years. At Cartmel we request that racegoers wear smart casual dress in the Paddock Enclosure, especially in the restaurant areas. Although the atmosphere is always informal, we ask that shirts are worn in all enclosures please. T-shirts and shorts are acceptable in hot weather.

Grange is a pretty resort with an Edwardian flavour and a mild climate. It is on the shores of Morecambe Bay, and from the 13th Century until the 1850’s, the major route from Lancaster was across the sands.
Does Grange-over-Sands have a beach?
Visitors to Grange-Over-Sands may be disappointed not to find a beach as such but they will find a lovely long promenade running alongside a wide expanse of saltmarsh. The saltmarsh itself is unsuitable for walking because of dangerous quicksands, but a walk along the promenade is highly recommended.
