We welcome external visitors to our Library as a place to learn and discover. Members of the public, Alumni, visiting staff and students at other Universities can all apply to use the Library.
Can you go to a different university library?
UCL staff and students can use other, non-UCL libraries and catalogues, including where UCL has made special access arrangements with other UK institutions.

The Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) represents all university libraries in the UK and Ireland, irrespective of mission group, as well as national libraries and many libraries with collections of national significance.

Can non uni students go to uni library?
Qualifying UCL alumni and visitors can use UCL libraries, but must complete an online registration form before visiting.
Is Sconul access free?
Edinburgh University Library is a member of the Society of College, National and University Libraries (SCONUL) Access scheme. Once registered with the scheme staff and students from any other SCONUL Access institution can have free membership of the Library.
Can LSE students use UCL Library?
As there are separate sections of the library for different subjects – you can enter other libraries that are still in the same building to get a change in environment. To get a UCL library pass, you simply have to go online and submit a photo of yourself and proof that you are a LSE student.
What is band R Sconul?
The bands are defined as: Band A: staff (both academic and support staff) and research students. Band B: part time, distance learning and placement students. Band C: full time taught postgraduates. Band R: reference access to full-time undergraduates and some other users not covered by the banding agreement.

The British Library The library, which is a short walk from King’s Cross, is free to enter; a reader pass is available for students and members of the public over the age of 18 via online pre-registration.
