Yes, I realize that the novel is historical fiction, but I’ve also read that many of the characters are loosely based on actual historical figures. I’ve also read that the customs, social structure, and social interactions are very accurate to Japan in the 1600’s.
Can you read Shogun first?
Michael Kidd Definitely. These two books have basically nothing to do with each other. I read all the books in random order and still understood each. If you can however, read Shogun before Gai-Jin if possible as the latter refers to the former sometimes, though the stories aren’t really related.
