What is EtaProof?
EtaProof is a fabric of organic cotton for multiple purposes. The cotton is handselected and is 100% natural, so no pesticides or fertilisers are used. The fabric is breathable and weatherproof, so can be used outdoors for sports or leisure purposes.
Is Ventile really waterproof?
Although weatherproof, it is not coated or laminated; the combination of a dense weave and the swelling of the fibres when wet provide excellent weatherproofing.
Is Ventile cotton waterproof?
As the story goes, Ventile works by the cotton fibres swelling up and making it waterproof. This means the fabric gets wet, and when wet no more water will pass through.
How is Ventile made?
A completely natural, 100% cotton fabric Ventile® fabrics are 100% cotton, utilising the finest, long staple fibres, only found in the top 2% of the world’s crop. After gentle spinning and doubling, the yarn is woven into a very dense weave, using up to 30% more yarn than conventional woven fabrics.
Can you wash Ventile?
Caring for Ventile Gently brush or sponge off any dirt. Close the zipper/fastener and turn the garment inside out. Machine wash one item at a time in warm water on a gentle cycle using pure liquid soap. Ensure all residue soap is removed from the garment, re-rinse if necessary.
Is rubberised cotton breathable?
Rubberized cotton will not let water through. Although neither will a garbage bag, and it’s essentially as breathable.

Does ventile need Reproofing?
Reproofing your garment In time your Hilltrek® Ventile® garment may eventually require to be reproofed. Our recommendation is to use Nikwax® TX Direct – and not Cotton Proof as is suggested by Ventile. Wash in Nikwax® TX Direct using the same settings and precautions for the initial wash.
Can you wax poly cotton?
The wax can certainly be applied to a cotton/poly blend, but we typically recommend that cotton be the majority of the blend (ie 60% Cotton / 40% Poly). The lower percentage of cotton present, the greater the odds are that you may experience some rejection of the wax.
Is waxed cotton toxic?

Who invented Ventile?
Ventile was invented in the late 1930s at the Shirley Institute, a cotton research centre in Manchester that also developed the tog measurement for insulation. Its original purpose wasn’t clothing but fire hoses.
