What is a dynacast?

Dynacast Prelude is a synthetic splinting system specifically incorporating fibreglass, covered by a polypropylene padding, to offer easy application for the support and immobilisation of fresh fractures and soft tissue injuries. It is presented in a roll format for versatility in use and application.

What is a Fibreglass cast?

Fiberglass cast. Also called a synthetic cast, it’s made of fiberglass, which is a type of plastic that can be shaped. It’s lighter and more durable and expensive than plaster casts. X-rays also “see” through it better. Fiberglass is water-resistant.

What Is Dye cast?

Die casting is a metal casting process that is characterized by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mould cavity. The mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel dies which have been machined into shape and work similarly to an injection mold during the process.

Can you shower with a fiberglass cast?

The fibreglass part of your cast can get wet. But getting the inside wet can cause problems. Use a bag or tape a sheet of plastic to cover your cast when you take a shower or bath or when you have any other contact with water. (Don’t take a bath unless you can keep the cast out of the water.)

Are fiberglass casts better than plaster?

Fiberglass has several advantages compared to plaster. It weighs less, so the cast made from it will be lighter. More durable and porous, fiberglass allows air to flow in and out. Fiberglass is the better choice in case the limb must be X-rayed during the healing process.

Why is it called diecast?

Diecasting is a manufacturing process involving a metal alloy and a two-part mold, called, predictably, a die. It was originally invented in 1838 for creating moveable type for printing presses.

Does Ortho-glass need water?

Prefabricated splints such as Ortho-Glass should not be submerged as it only requires a minimal amount of cool water to activate the material. The purpose of applying water to a splint material is to activate it. Doing so will cause an exothermic reaction while the material hardens.

How does Ortho-glass work?

The Ortho-Glass Splinting System is pre-padded casting material for every phase of immobilization. The easy-stretch padding covers all edges while patented roll form eliminates waste. Minimum water is needed for activation and there is no wrong side for application.

Can you XRAY through a fiberglass cast?

Fiberglass casts. These plastic casts are typically lighter and more durable than plaster casts. Also, X-rays penetrate fiberglass casts better than plaster casts — making it easier for your doctor to examine your child’s bones while he or she is still wearing the cast.
