What happened to Clumber Park house?
The main house was demolished in 1938 after damage by several fires. The nearby Grade I listed chapel in Gothic Revival style and a four-acre walled kitchen garden still survive. The gardens and the estate are managed by the National Trust and are open to the public all year round.

When was Clumber house built?
Originally built sometime between 1760 and 1770 for the 2nd Duke by Stephen Wright it was regarded as one of the finest non-Royal houses in the country.

It also contained a First Folio of Shakespeare’s works. The House underwent several dramatic changes, either to accommodate fashions of its time or as a result of the fires that struck the property in 1879 and 1912. It was eventually demolished in 1938.

Entry to the Walled Kitchen Garden and Glasshouse is now free to all National Trust members and anyone who pays to enter the park. Entry for cyclists and pedestrians FREE.
